Slow Read
How it works
Every week we review hundreds of long-form pieces from publications around the world and keep the few worth your time: original reporting or data, a mechanism explained, an argument made fairly. Nothing is here because it happened this week.
How we rate
- ★★★★★Original reporting or data, explains a mechanism, argues fairly.
- ★★★★☆Excellent, one soft spot: a frame, narrow scope, or an interview.
- ★★★☆☆Solid, if the subject already interests you.
Rated on the piece, never its politics. A frame tag, in italics, names the position a piece argues from so you can weigh it before you read.
What we do
- Review hundreds of pieces a week and keep only those still worth reading months from now.
- Write our own summaries, in your language.
- Rate the piece, never its politics, and name the position it argues from.
- Send you to the publisher, in the original or a machine translation.
What we don't do
- Cover the news or chase what happened this week.
- Pad a thin week to fill the email.
- Rate a piece higher because we agree with it.
- Expect you to read everything. Unread pieces are not a debt.
